Working with founders: design as a catalyst for clarity and connection

text note

Over the years I have worked with many startup founders, and my role turned out to go well beyond production or creative execution. What founders often need is not a product or a design but clarity, trust and connection — and the success of a company is tied more tightly to the emotional state of its founder than anyone admits. Four modes recur. Confidence: sometimes all a founder needs is someone to say this is great and here is how we make it shine. Psychotherapy: unpacking the vision, refining it, aligning it with their actual goals. Team therapy: when the challenge is not the product but the people, and visualising ideas together beats an awkward conversation. Speed: founders are busy, and when they trust you completely they stop micromanaging — which demands internal rigour rather than less of it.
